Annegret’s life was turned upside down after her beloved dog Donny died. Apart from the painful emptiness caused by Donny’s passing, she was especially hurt by friends questioning her grief for a “mere animal”. Though we rarely resemble our animals closer than in death, we actively avoid to confront ourselves with this unpleasant part of our relationship.
