Eight-year-old Lyubochka firmly believes that her father is a captain. But adults dismiss it as a childish fantasy.
During the summer at a pioneer camp, she learns to stand up for herself while dreaming of meeting her father. Later, she travels to Crimea with her grandmother, who knows the truth but remains silent, unwilling to let her granddaughter go.
