不怀好意的人 Malqueridas

According to official numbers, 92% of the women that have been deprived of their freedom in Chile are mothers. Through the testimony of about twenty of them, Tana Gilbert organizes an ensemble piece about interrupted motherhoods, tragedies and injustice. What distinguishes Malqueridas from other prison documentaries? The difference lies in its shape—it is made up exclusively of photographs and videos captured by the convicts with their cell phones (which, as the disclaimer at the beginning reads, are forbidden in prisons). The clandestine images, which were destined to become lost or confiscated, build up a collective memory of what happens at the cell blocks, where the mothers count the days while their children grow up far away from them. Not only does Gilbert inquire into life behind bars; she also manages to put the possible futures of these women into perspective.
