Sidewalk Sudoku

Sidewalk Sudoku is a short and very experimental film from award winning filmmaker, David Ellis.
Visual, numerical and audio grids merge in this exploration of the relationship between moving image and sound with the audio created by using the random numbers found on a Sudoku grid, assigning a musical note to each number, and then playing the musical sequences. The audio was then further layered with additional field recordings.
Originally thinking that there would be no musically intelligible connection between the random "Sudoku" notes, it turned out that there indeed was, and they became the soundtrack for the film.
As I edited and re-edited the video clip, it digitally morphed into what is presented here.
The original clip was as an iPhone video of a sidewalk, itself a grid, as I walked at night looking down at my footsteps passing beneath me and has evolved from that simple video of walking along into this fascinating psychedelic animation.
