Anubis is Not a Dog

Anubis Is Not a Dog is a multichannel installation on the dance routines between dogs and their owners, typical of the artistic-sporting discipline known as ‘Dog Dance’. The attention is fixed on the commands and calls that make up the relational language between the dog and the owner. In the rapid succession of steps, it is evident how often the dog＇s response to the human＇s voice determines the order of choreography, highlighting the importance of interaction, speed, stasis and rhythm.

In their work, Zapruder, an Italian collective founded in 2000 by David Zamagni and Nadia Ranocchi, often explore the boundaries of experimental filmmaking, playing with narrative, form and genre. Anubis Is Not a Dog is part of their filmic and performative project Allegoria della felicità pubblica (Allegory of Public Happiness) – an oblique investigation into the rites and myths of contemporary society.
