When Vanessa is injured during the 2015 Paris terrorist attacks, she begins research into the war in Afghanistan in the 1980s as she goes through a state-sponsored memory study on post-traumatic stress disorder. Who is the victim or who is the enemy becomes a matter of time and place, and Vanessa gradually sees herself as both.
