In August 2013, an unprecedented world record event was held – the International relay race in the open ocean. A team of 66 swimmers in the open water from 16 countries crossed the Bering Strait, from Chukotka (Russia) to Alaska (USA). Instead of 40 hours and 90 kilometers of the planned route, the race lasted 144 hours, and the distance of the actual route from Cape Dezhnev to Cape Prince of Wales was 134 kilometers.
