A gathering of deities is called so that Itaarió, creator of the world, can voice his growing discontent with humankind. Seated around him are powerful beings – representing the sun, the rain, Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. In a hazy, otherworldly atmosphere, they listen to troubling news from a planet Earth in flames. One must let the mind drift like smoke to grasp that things cannot continue as they are. Itaarió, the most powerful of the Mait – the Gods of the Kaiabi people – grants us the rare privilege of witnessing this exchange.
