Perpetual Disorder

An immersive sensory journey through the bustling streets of Barcelona’s old town, where time, space, and human presence intertwine in unexpected ways. The film captures the tension between the sensory overload of the modern world and the slow, deliberate pace of analog filmic expression.

Barcelona has experienced many influxes that have questioned mass tourism, the lack of housing for its residents, price inflation and gentrification. Even with public policies to combat this exaggeration, the city continues to experience a vortex day and night. This Perpetual Disorder forces us to stop, to reduce the voracity of time, to create silences and slower rhythms, to make us look again. Filmed in 16mm with multiple camera exposures, we are increasingly fascinated to look, as if through a game of mirrors, or just through impressions. The architectural landscape, the streets and the people blur together. There are shadows, there are ghosts, there are magical figures who, in the end, populate the city but are hidden from our gaze as angry tourists. In this perpetual disorder, the traveler reappears, the one who looks, the one who spends time, the one who pays attention to detail. Traveler João Carlos Pinto has seen it all and is trying to show us, in his own time, at his own pace. Barcelona’s old town has never been as beautiful as it is here. (Miguel Valverde)
