In 2007, Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa proposed leaving the ITT oil block in Yasuní National Park unexploited in exchange for international compensation of $3.6 billion. However, rising oil prices led to the project’s revival in 2013. The citizen consultation documents the struggle of the Yasunidos group to call for a referendum and halt the exploitation.
