The Dog

MZ is a small-time drug dealer working the frantic streets of the coastal city of Mombasa in Kenya. He is hired to drive a young escort, Kadzo, to and from her assignments, with strict instructions to not, under any circumstances, get involved with her.

However, MZ falls in love with her and sets his mind on rescuing her from her situation, leading him into an ever-deepening spiral of trouble.

Inspired by 70s American thrillers, “The Dog” is a raw crime drama about toxic masculinity set in the underworld of modern-day Mombasa. Directed by Uganda-born Swedish director Baker Karim (Glacier), the film stars his brother Alexander Karim (Gladiator 2) in the lead role, alongside an ensemble of Kenyan actors.
