Songbird

In a cosy tree house in the middle of the woods, Rory teaches Theo the chords to a song that he wrote. Despite Theo’s painfully slow progress, the friends relish the intimate moment, happy just to be in each other’s company.

The moment doesn’t last, and Theo wakes from the memory with a jolt to find himself alone – except for a single, glowing songbird perched on the windowsill. Enticed by the bird as it whistles Rory’s melody, Theo follows it into the forest.

The peace is interrupted by a wolflike creature that bursts out of the tree house. Theo runs through the trees, both to escape the monster and pursue the songbird, which illuminates the seemingly endless night like a beacon. As Theo catches up with the bird and the creature in turn catches up with him, Theo is forced to reckon with the prospect of life beyond the loss of his best friend.
