Valentine is a friendly yet unconventional computer scientist working under an antagonistic boss, Mr Salmon, at Tank Inc. Her brightness clashes with everything that Tank Inc prizes, and Mr Salmon can’t stand her – her happiness, her positivity or her garish accessories. Friendless and outcast in her sterile workplace, Valentine’s optimism is her only defence.

As a ploy to get her fired, Mr Salmon gives her a monumental task: creating a sentient AI from a decrepit old supercomputer. Her resolution is tested as she tries every trick in the book to gain an emotional reaction from the computer. All Valentine wants is to befriend it, but the task is proving harder than she thought … and, worst of all, Mr Salmon is watching. With the threat of losing her job looming ever closer with each failure, will Valentine make a breakthrough?
