Synopsis

Occupied in 1976 by the Women’s Liberation Movement, Governo Vecchio was the beating heart of the demands and victories of the Italian feminist movement, the first place in the city self-managed only by and for women: the first women’s house. Five young women directors review the history of those years through material from the archives and personal accounts.

COMMENTARY

Walking through empty rooms and dusty corridors, the gaze of the young women directors moves into the past of the feminist movement, connecting it in a dialogue with the present and the realities that have inherited and reinterpreted its revolutionary drive.

DIRECTOR＇S STATEMENT

What is a women’s house? And what is it now? To point the camera within the walls of Governo Vecchio means pointing them inwards into ourselves and into our history as young women. We feel the need to explore the past, comparing the experience of Governo Vecchio with women’s houses today, discovering the new realities that have claimed and re-elaborated this legacy.
