Abebe – Butterfly Song

It starts with a warning: this film features dead bodies. Then, we set off on a journey to Papua-New Guinea, whose music scene needed a long time to step out of the shade. To a large extent, it was possible thanks to George Telek, an artist singing in native languages who combined Papuan and Western sounds. It is also a story of his 30-year long creative friendship with Australian musician David Bridie, which was marked by tragic events, both in Telek’s life and in the island’s history. Thanks to music, a remarkable intercultural meeting takes place, which defies the colonial past.
