Un air de bonheur

This project stems from the premise that the French expression “faire son deuil” (to mourn in English) is not entirely correct, and that we should rather admit that “mourning makes us a different person”. Mourning is not conquered, but this stage opens the door to a new phase of our identity. Alexandre wanted to make a film to overcome the emotional and familial grief after his separation with Bea, his ex-girlfriend, and the death of Henri, his grandfather. It was a way for him to regain control over his life through cinema, filming his family, friends, and his everyday life, much like his grandfather did during all his life. “An air of happiness” portrays different eras that blend with the director＇s day-to-day life. It’s a patchwork film-diary, a cinematic collaboration with his grandfather, where the author aims to show what a filmmaker dreams of when he wants to create his first work to tend to his emotional scars.
