OMA, histórias que ouvi sobre as mulheres da minha família

Throughout a collage of texts, images and documents together with the use of cinematic references, OMA shows the stories Camila Rhomberg heard about the women of her family since their migration from Austria to Brazil escaping poor living conditions in the aftermath of the First World War, and the continuation of their precarious life in the promised paradise land.

The cinematic references go well beyond Star Wars, sequences from What Even Happened to Baby Jane?, starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford as well as from Jeanne Dielman, by Chantal Ackerman. OMA includes opening credits based on the closing credits of the film Ecstasy, starring Hedy Lamarr.

While these stories unfold throughout the 20th century, from the interwar period to the artist＇s childhood, they still deal with very contemporary issues: migration, precarious conditions of life and media influence. To tell these stories Camila comprises original documents as well as reinterpreted/reinvented ones.The sound design aims for a certain atemporality of the work.
