ArchiWine - Architecture in Wineries

ArchiWine is an original short docuseries (5X26). First season of ArchiWine focuses on one of the world＇s leading wine producer, Italy. With 46.6 million hectolitres of wine produced in 2020, Italian viticulture is characterised by a millennial history and a huge variety of grape varieties (the largest in the world), giving a strong characterisation to each territory, its traditions and its wineries. Our story will symbolically begin in 1986, the year in which the methanol wine scandal shook the world of Italian viticulture, causing poisonings and deaths. It was in that terrible 1986 - overshadowed by Chernobyl incident - that Slow Food was founded by Carlo Petrini. We will use this moment in recent history as a metaphor for the transition from an economy based on quantity to one based on quality and value, in which modern wineries are contemporary cathedrals of excellence. First season will be composed of 5 episodes, each focusing on a particular region with a key topic: 1) SÜDTIROL. The environmental challenge; 2) PUGLIA. Phylloxera/Xylella: the environmental crisis; 3) TUSCANY. Pre-phylloxera vines and the Italian varieties; 4) VENETO/LOMBARDIA. The ‘Clinto’ wine, the forbidden variety; 5) PIEDMONT. His majesty Barolo: sugaring and adulteration in the export market.
