The feature-length documentary GABOR delves into the world of the 93-year-old humanist Gabor Szilasi, a photographer who has spent the last 60 years portraying the eloquence of everyday life in his adopted country, Canada, and Quebec in particular. GABOR tells the story of an immigrant fleeing Hungary in 1956, arriving in Canada by boat and creating for himself a rich life full of friends, family and an extraordinary career. This film is a quirky and tender portrait of Gabor as seen through the eyes of his friend, photographer and director Joannie Lafrenière. Gabor allows Joannie to follow him around in all aspects of his life, to Budapest and around Quebec, including family time at his cottage. Joannie shows us an inspiring human being who loves to forge relationships with people from all walks of life. Despite his age, he maintains impressive health and lucidity, has a sharp take on his adopted society, but still keeps a touch of madness and an enviable sense of humor.
