Matt D＇Avella is a director and cinematographer, known for Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things (2015), The Minimalists: Less Is Now (2021) and Design Disruptors (2016).

Before he started his career as a YouTube creator full-time, Matt struggled with paying off his student debt. What started as an impulse purchase of a leather jacket plus a brand new car to celebrate his college graduation⁠—resulted in him acquiring racking a total payable bill of $115 000.

Through this experience, Matt was unsatisfied with his current life. From living in his parent＇s basement, he spent the next 5 years learning everything and reading topics on personal development, personal finances, and minimalism.[3] He was soon able to completely pay off all his debt.

Since then, he began his journey in 2016, sharing his experience towards how to handle personal finances in relation to minimalism, uploading his videos every week
